Prof. Dr. Niels Quack has assumed his position as Managing Director of Institut für Mikroelektronik Stuttgart (IMS CHIPS) on April 1, 2025. Joining forces with Prof. Dr. Jens Anders, he heads the research facility into the future with innovative strength and strategic foresight.
Momentum for micro- and nanotechnology
Prof. Dr. Quack has extensive experience in micro- and nano systems technology. His research focuses on innovative micro- and nano manufacturing techniques for new materials and the integration of mechanics and photonics on the smallest scale. “I am looking forward to providing technological momentum to IMS CHIPS and working together with a highly qualified team on pioneering innovations,” says Quack.
Particular attention will be paid to the further development of integrated photonics for data centers and high-performance computers as well as essential key technologies in micro- and nano systems technology – topics that will play a central role in science and industry in the coming years.
Solid link between research and teaching
In addition to his role as Managing Director at the IMS, Prof. Dr. Quack has been appointed as university professor at the University of Stuttgart. This will strengthen the close cooperation between fundamental university research and industrial application. “This connection is crucial to further advancing Baden-Württemberg as a location for innovation,” emphasizes Quack.
Prof. Dr. Jens Anders is also pleased about the new appointment: “With Niels Quack, we are gaining an outstanding scientist who will take the IMS to a new level with his expertise and international experience. We are looking forward to setting new technological milestones together.”
