Volume production of quantum sensors showcasing magnetic field sensors in silicon carbide

The QVOL2 project is specifically focusing on essential enabling technologies for sensors based on solid-state defects in silicon carbide, which will play a central role in industrial use and in increasing the scalability of this sensor type towards the targeted high-volume production.

A main object of the QSens cluster is to transfer quantum sensor technology to the market. To achieve this goal, in addition to major breakthroughs in quantum physics, advances in the miniaturization and integration are crucial building blocks for the successful commercial use of quantum sensor technology. The QVOL2 project is specifically focusing on essential enabling technologies for sensors based on color centers in silicon carbide (SiC), which will play a central role in industrial use and in increasing the scalability of this sensor type towards the targeted high-volume production. Due to the lower technology maturity of SiC quantum sensing, the QVOL project focuses not only on microelectronic and photonic integration as key tools to miniaturize and increase the energy efficiency of these quantum sensors, but also on sensitivity enhancement issues for three different embodiments.
